Do I have to be a UK national to apply for this role?

You must be free to remain and eligible to work in the UK.

Where is the role based? 

Worcester has been chosen as the location for the OEP to ensure that the Government levelling up agenda is met and the OEP will be based at a central Worcester location. Staff will work from home until Covid-19 restrictions ease. After this, staff will be Worcester based. Flexible working is likely to be possible by arrangement, dependent on business need - details to be discussed with successful candidates. At present there are no plans for staff to be permanently based at another Defra group office. There is expectation of regular attendance at the Worcester office.

Where will the Worcester office be?

The OEP will be based at a central Worcester location which is in the process of being finalised. Details on exact location will be shared with candidates at interview.

Can I work part-time?

We are open to discussing a range of flexible working options. If you are successful, you will be given the opportunity to discuss your working arrangements with the OEP Chair  prior to the issue of a final job offer.

Can I work from home?

Worcester has been chosen as the location for the OEP to ensure that the Government levelling up agenda is met and the interim OEP and the OEP will be based at a central Worcester location. If you are successful, you will be given the opportunity to discuss your working arrangements with the OEP Chair prior to the issue of a final job offer. Flexible working may be possible, depending on business need, but we would expect the new CEO to be present in the Worcester office a minimum 2-3 days per week. Please note that staff will work from home until Covid-19 restrictions ease.

Can I work from another Defra office?

From January 1st 2022, The Office for Environmental Protection became separate from Defra as a Non Departmental Public Body.

OEP staff will not be able to work from a Defra office due to the sensitivity of the OEP’s work.

Can I start on a salary point higher than the minimum?

Staff will usually start in post at the minimum of the pay range.

When will the OEP be fully operational?

The OEP was legally vested in November 2021, under the Environment Act 2021.  All staff were transferred from Defra to OEP on 1st January 2022. It is expected The Office for Environmental Protection will formally commence its statutory functions by end of January 2022.
